Workshop Instructor / Outreach Officer

Overall Job Objectives:

The Workshop Instructor/Outreach officer is responsible for developing and delivering a diverse and dynamic workshop program for schools as well as members of public, with the aim of promoting STPI’s workshop and gallery as a venue for learning and participation.

Primary responsibilities


To be responsible for new initiatives of public workshops and organizing and conducting the workshop sessions:

  • Intaglio Printing
  • Screen Printing
  • Relief Printing
  • Paper Making
  • Cyanotype
  • Mono-printing
  • Collagraph printing

To develop new and enhanced workshop offerings which would increase workshop participation and maximize STPI as a learning resource for all groups or individuals

To maintain the guest workshop, keeping track of the materials for guest workshop sessions and procuring the materials when necessary

To manage Guest Studio Membership by promoting it, tracking the membership states and guiding members with technical matters

To track the expenditure incurred for every workshop session to ensure projects are kept within budget

Secondary responsibilities


To support the Education and Programme Officer develop tailored learning programs with the aim of engaging the public in line with STPI’s offerings and ethos.

The programs can vary from:

  • School / Public Hands-on Workshops related to STPI exhibitions
  • Annual Open House
  • External outreach program: eg. Istana Event Outreach
  • VAC Joint Education Initiatives
  • School / Public Exhibition Tours
  • Guided Tours of the Workshop
  • Artist Talks
  • Coffee and Conversation Sessions

The Workshop Instructor/Outreach Officersupports these programs where there are workshop sessions planned and ensures the smooth delivery of the above programs.

Other typical duties involve:

  • Collaborate with the Education Program Officer to work with other museum staff to develop synergized outreach activities
  • Together with the Education Program Officer, develop and source for manpower during the 2 day Open House session at STPI
  • Support the set up and logistics for Coffee and Conversation sessions

Coordinator pre-exhibition guided tours for STPI’s docents and participating in docents’ training sessions when necessary

Workshop Internship arrangement

  • Liaise with Art Schools, Universities and Polytechniques to source sufficient workshop interns
  • Process the internship program through application, interview, agreement and time sheet

Job Specifications:

  • Knowledge in the print techniques as abovementioned under Primary Responsibilities
  • Diploma or Certificate in teaching or conducting workshops
  • Experience in developing learning programs for children and adults
  • Fluent in English and one other language
  • Good communication/public speaking skills
  • Experience in printmaking and familiar with the visual arts scene in Singapore
  • Ability to work on the weekends or public holidays when necessary

Key Deliverables:

  • Creating and developing workshops to engage the public with STPI’s program offerings
  • Collating visitorship numbers where workshops are concerned and analyzing feedback on this
  • Representing and promoting STPI with external educational or cultural bodies to establish a network of partnerships
  • Supervising the internship programs for workshop and gallery
